William E. "Bill" Jackson

During his first war patrol, Bill Jackson endurred a three-hour depth charge attack aboard the submarine USS SCABBARDFISH (SS-397).  He would later relive the experience during a grueling four-hour depth charge attack during the ship's fourth war patrol for which he would later receive a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during that attack.  Bill was an actual witness to the dropping of the Atom Bomb on Japan while the submarine was on Lifeguard Duty rescuing downed aviators. Scabbardfish received five battle stars for her World War II service.
