A Letter from our Project Spokesman - Tony Curtis

I'm Calling upon all Patriotic Americans to join with me in supporting the California Center for Military History's efforts to preserve our World War II history while there’s still time. This nation can not afford to let the lessons of World War II be lost to future generations.

I am very proud of my naval service in World War II and am both privileged and honored to be a part of the World War II Submarine Veterans History Project.  As a former Relief Crew member of the submarine service myself, I know all too well the deeds and sacrifices made by our World War II submarine veterans.

The men of the U.S. Navy’s submarine service served their nation with little fan fare, silently and courageously fighting to promote freedom and to insure our American way of life.  But few have ever heard of the deeds and sacrifices made by these men due to the highly classified nature of submarine operations during that war.  For the most part, the contributions of these submariners have gone unheralded –and the history of this important branch of service has been overshadowed by other more highly publicized military operations.  With your support we can preserve this remarkable history.

That’s why I agreed to be a spokesman for the World War II Submarine Veterans History Project. Motivated by the urgent need to collect the stories and experiences of our nation’s surviving World War II submarine veterans while they are still among us, the mission of the World War II Submarine Veterans History Project is to collect the memories, accounts, and documents of our submarine veterans and of those who served in support of them during World War II.

Please join with me in preserving this important history before it’s too late.

Sincerely,

Tony Curtis
